PROJECT OVERVIEW
The client purchased the home in Cold Spring, MN because of its location. Situated on a lake with property jutting out on a peninsula, the home had great sightlines. Although the bones of the house were good, the home was filled with traditional golden oak and heavy traditional detailing, along with some odd design elements from the ’90s. The client wanted to create a resort-like atmosphere to entertain friends and family that included a bit of modern West Coast influence that connected the home to its surroundings and fed their souls. By updating all of the surfaces in the main level living areas and adding a variety of tactile finishes to create interest, the home now welcomes you with wide open arms. The calm color pallet connects with the water outside and provides the perfect backdrop for their expanding art collection. Open shelving and a beverage center in the kitchen allow guests easy access to the necessities. The once unused formal dining room now serves as the perfect place for cocktail hour or great conversation with an impromptu guest.
The texture doesn’t stop as you enter into the primary suite. The bedroom includes metallic handwoven wallpaper as a backdrop for the bed, and the carpet pattern resembles a white sandy beach. The bathroom floor tile's unique pattern and in-floor heat are like walking outside along a pebbled path on a sunny day. The stunning textural wall tile appears to glisten with fresh morning dew. Through the use of the hidden technology, the bathing experience is enhanced as the shades close, the lights dim, music begins to play, and you turn on the shower to experience the pulsing sensation of rain and sunlight created with integrated lighting powered by the flowing water. What a cleansing way to begin or end each day. Each one of these elements is beautiful on its own, but together, they create an atmosphere that connects with the soul.
