RED RIVER RESTORATION
RED RIVER RESTORATION
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The main floor bathroom of this family home is located within a historic Victorian home in Cold Spring, MN. The challenge when working with historic homes is how to honor the character of the home while making updates to suit modern living. This project posed obstacles in space constraints and overall design style. The small bathroom was cold, dimly lit, and the plumbing fixtures were awkwardly laid out.
The renovation included a full demo, careful removal and labeling of millwork, window upgrades, and insulation improvements. A slimmer radiator and electric in-floor heating replaced the bulky old radiator, and remote-controlled shades were added for convenience. A shower niche and custom walnut vanity maximized storage, and a fun patterned floor tile complemented the Victorian design. Tile wainscoting with a woven texture replaced traditional wood, and a natural quartzite countertop added a biophilic element. The original millwork, painted a warm gray, along with the walls, ceiling, and reused medicine cabinet, created a cohesive and inviting space. Modern lighting with period-style dimmer switches completed the transformation.
