PROJECT OVERVIEW
With this project, located in St. Cloud, MN, our primary goal was to seamlessly open up the kitchen to the dining room and living room, while maintaining the traditional style of the brick colonial home with a mansard roof. The homeowner, an enthusiastic cook and entertainer, wanted a space that would allow her to connect with guests while preparing meals. We maintained the formal dining room but significantly expanded the kitchen opening, transforming a small 3-foot-wide passageway into a grand 9-foot-wide archway and cased it out with complementary moldings. The central island now serves as the heart of the kitchen, offering the homeowner a clear view of the dining and living areas, which allows her to converse with her guests while she is in the kitchen. To enhance functionality during gatherings, we strategically placed coffee/dessert and beverage/spirits stations away from the main cooking area. High-end Wolf appliances, including wall ovens and cooktop, along with a custom metal hood, provide the culinary tools necessary to showcase the homeowner's expertise.
With the dining room, we again wanted to preserve the traditional Georgian character of the home, while creating a more open flow between the dining room and kitchen. We kept a small opening to the foyer, but by expanding the existing 3-foot kitchen opening to a grand 9-foot cased opening, we achieved a seamless transition between the two spaces. Traditional chair rail and picture frame moldings set a timeless backdrop for a vintage chandelier and botanical custom drapery. The antique Chippendale dining set, anchored by a durable, easy to clean rug and new hardwood flooring, seamlessly connects the dining room to the kitchen, accommodating both formal and casual gatherings.
