PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project aimed to create a luxurious and functional bathroom suite for a family of six in a historic Victorian home in Cold Spring, MN.  The challenge was that the existing bathroom was one of only two in the house and needed to serve multiple purposes.

Space was limited, but a closet from an adjacent bedroom was repurposed to allow for a double sink vanity. This custom-built walnut vanity features cleverly laid-out storage and custom-designed corner posts sourced from a local wood-turning company. The design blends modern amenities with the home's architecture, featuring a custom Victorian-style archway, accented with bent quartz. The local quartz fabricator took on the challenge of bending the quartz to wrap the interior contours of the archway that separates the "wet room" from the rest of the bathroom, along with beadboard wainscoting and period-appropriate fixtures.

To accommodate both a tub and shower, the radiator was replaced with underfloor heating and a slim wall-mounted radiator.  A built-in soaking tub was chosen for its depth and surrounded with quartz, which also covered the laundry chute opening (with a custom hatch) and window jambs.  The shower features a rain showerhead, and the space is designed to evoke a forest bathing experience with greenery and eucalyptus.  A marble pedestal was added as a humorous and symbolic touch, reminding the family to embrace individuality and find humor in their day.
